About Tako
Whether it’s through one-on-one work or in classroom settings, getting to witness the positive effects of yoga on people’s lives is one of the things that makes me happy.
You might have noticed that my logo is a peaceful looking octopus! Besides being my name, “Tako” is the Japanese word for everyone’s favorite eight limbed invertebrate. By an odd coincidental twist of fate, my nickname in capoeira is Polvo… the Portuguese word for this squishy mollusk! This animal represents me in both yoga and capoeira. The Octopus/Tako/Polvo has eight limbs, just like yoga.
My teaching style is attentive, exploratory, playful, and collaborative. I encourage reflection, introspection, and critical thinking, as I believe you are ultimately your truest teacher. I believe yoga is truly for everyone — media might give the impression of what a yoga practitioner looks like, but I think it looks like you.
Hands on support is given on an “enthusiastic consent” basis, where I look for a “Yes!”, rather than the simple absence of a “No”. I prefer an empowered, collaborative teacher/student relationship.
